Merdejo

Merdejo is a 24 year-old blind Freshwater Psuedobasilisk from an isolated underground village. His skin is green with pale blue, bioluminescent stripes. A faintly glowing lure sprouts from his forehead and green fins decorate his ears and back of the head. He stands roughly at six and a half feet and dresses in simple garb: a plain short-sleeved shirt and long pants with sandals. His SMCI uniform consists of a short red cape draped over his shoulders and a well-polished badge; this apparel is simply an addition to his typical attire.

Mer is kind, polite, and good-humored, often poking harmless fun at friends, enemies, and even his own disability. Lately he’s been more withdrawn than usual, but he still has his goofy and light-hearted gadfly moments. He does not consider himself to be religious, but does believe in the existence of a higher power. He has a fondness for fishing, swimming, and dabbling in wood carving. He has little practical magical prowess, but he has advanced knowledge of enchanting, even though he can’t perform the skill well himself. He is easy to please in regards to food and drink; being fond of fish and simple water. He values loyalty, friendship, family, patience and swift judgement for crimes. He despises liars and unprovoked violence. However, he is not above revenge is he believes that the cause is just. Merdejo absolutely CANNOT stand silence. If things get too quiet; he is prone to making noise. This is usually something like quietly whistling or humming whatever tune he can recall. He may either get louder or fall dead silent himself if he gets nervous.

During his childhood, he kept himself almost completely alienated from other children to try avoiding the regular taunting that came with him being a bit of an odd duck. He became very close with his sister and was educated by his parents, who are of a high-rank among the people of his village. Because of his heritage, he was respected by most adults, although his blindness was seen as a bad omen by the more superstitious.

As a teenager, he helped to tend to and teach the Basilisk tadpoles. He loved to tell the children stories that came from above-ground. He wanted to experience such adventures himself, and he eventually left home and joined the Society of Magic and Criminal Investigation, an up-and-coming multiracial organization dedicated to protecting citizens within its reach and pursuing the art and science of magic study to do so. After the death of his close friend and fellow Society Officer, Attil Finch, he abandoned the SMCI to hunt for the killer himself.
